Debt of Rain

Darcy Engstrom came to Amagiri with a residency letter, a duffel bag, and a plan. The plan died in the first hour. Now the Duluth-raised medic is patching up street fighters in Old Gion, the last neutral ward in 2074 Greater Tokyo, and learning to fight from a grumpy old ronin who sees something in her the corporations want badly. Kurogane Takeshi has spent thirty-four years as the most expensive weapon his yakuza family owns. Then he finds his grandfather's buried ledger, and the crest on Old Gion's gate, and a debt his house never paid. Protecting Darcy means turning on his own blood. When a smiling man from Darcy's past starts filling cages for the towers of Kasumi Heights, the yakuza families, the ninja clans, and a heavily armed robotics firm all want a piece of her. Takeshi has a choice: obey, or burn everything he was born to and stand beside her. A steamy cyberpunk yakuza romance with a happily ever after, and the first book in the American Ronin series. Content warnings: explicit sex between consenting adults (including restraint and power play), graphic violence, abduction, limb loss, and references to childhood abuse.
