The ISV Halberd fires a system its crew does not fully understand. Seconds later, Commander Juno Carver and her people are no longer where any chart says they should be.
They are not alone.
On a cold coast, Tovi's people live by tides, fish, smoke and memory. They have no reason to trust strangers who arrived with metal, medicine and a catastrophe in their wake. The Halberd's survivors have no secure supply line, no road back, and technology that suddenly matters less than knowing when the water rises and how long winter lasts.
Neither group can survive alone. Neither can afford to let the other decide the terms.
Then the ground begins to answer.
