What makes a cover look self-published to you?

Question for readers this time (authors, feel free to lurk).
When you're scrolling and a cover makes you think "self-published", what tips you off? The fonts? The photo? Something you can't quite name?
The follow-up I'm more curious about: does it actually stop you buying? Some readers say a homemade-looking cover is an instant pass. Others have found favourite authors behind terrible covers and couldn't care less.
Bonus points if you can think of a cover that looked indie and turned out to be from a big publisher, or the other way round.
