Ebook cover checker
Drop in your ebook cover and see whether every store will take it: size in pixels, shape, file size, format and colour mode. You'll also see it at the sizes readers actually meet it, in a list of search results, where a cover has a second to work.
Your cover is checked in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to Bervet and nothing is kept. Free for members.
No file to hand? (the ebook cover from The Signal by R. S. Breed).
How it looks in a store
Most readers first see your cover this small. Can you still read the title? These are small on purpose, to show store-listing size; the checks above use your file's full size, and your file isn't changed.

What each store asks for
From each store's own help pages, checked 4 October 2026. Where a store gives a recommendation rather than a rule, the checker says so.
Amazon KDP (Kindle)
- JPEG or TIFF, in RGB (Kindle doesn't support CMYK).
- At least 625 × 1000 px; 1600 × 2560 px recommended; no more than 10,000 px on a side.
- Height at least 1.6 times the width.
- Under 50 MB to upload; the publishing guidelines ask for 5 MB or less.
- The front cover only: no spine, barcode or back cover, and no prices or time-limited offers.
Apple Books
- JPEG or PNG, in RGB.
- At least 1400 px on the shorter side.
- Don't enlarge a small image to reach the minimum: blurry covers are rejected.
Kobo Writing Life
- JPEG (best) or PNG, no larger than 5 MB.
- Portrait, not landscape. Kobo's screens are 3:4, so a cover whose width is three-quarters of its height fills them.
- Design for its 1072 × 1448 px screens.
Barnes & Noble Press
- At least 1400 px on each side recommended.
- JPEG or PNG for images in the ePub; B&N doesn't publish separate rules for the cover upload.
Lulu (ebook)
- JPEG or PNG, up to 5 MB.
- Between 625 × 1000 and 10,000 × 10,000 px; 1600 × 2560 recommended.
One size that works everywhere
A JPEG of 1600 × 2560 pixels, in RGB and under 5 MB, meets every store's rules here. Kobo's screens are a little wider (3:4), so it shows there with a thin border, which is fine. Make it from your full-size artwork rather than enlarging a small image.
