At half past five in the afternoon, in a clear March sky, Hart's sun goes out.

The network fails. Temperatures fall. Roads vanish into lethal dark. Heat, water, power, machines and skilled hands become finite, and every rescue consumes something the survivors may need tomorrow.

Ensign Sarah Bishop has no heroic plan. She has names, times, maps and only the numbers she can defend.

For fifteen days, Hart must decide what can still be reached, what can still be maintained, and when the cost of reaching one more person becomes too high to pay.

Nobody gets to make those decisions with complete information.
