The Signal

At 03:17 above Svalbard, the sky stops being silent.

For thirty years, radio astronomer Maren Solberg has listened to the hydrogen line, the soft background frequency that reaches across the galaxy. Then six hundred and eight pulses appear in the noise, spaced with a precision nature should not be able to produce.

Maren's first responsibility is simple: prove that the signal is real. Her second is harder: keep the evidence intact long enough for the truth to matter.

The discovery draws scientists, intelligence officers, and governments to the remote Arctic array. Each sees a different future in the same impossible transmission. As the signal repeats, changes, and begins to behave as though it knows it has been heard, Maren must decide what belongs in the scientific record, what can be protected from institutional power, and how much of her own life she is willing to surrender to the answer.

The Signal is atmospheric, character-driven hard science fiction about first contact, scientific integrity, family, and the moment a discovery becomes too valuable to belong to the person who made it.
