At a Svalbard installation already being dismantled, young researcher Erika Magnusdóttir records a reading from equipment that has been dead for eighteen months. The pattern is real, repeatable, and impossible. Somewhere beyond the crossing, a human being may still be alive.

Retired astronomer Maren Solberg is called back to the programme she helped create. Engineers, scientists, and mission crews begin preparing the first deliberate human passage into the unknown, built around strict thresholds, certified margins, and a single promise: everyone who goes through must come home.
