The Deep Frontier
Book 3 of The Long Watch · the whole series, in order

A deep-frontier anomaly. A ship at the edge of known space. A captain who has learned not to trust silence.
Captain Marcus Cole takes the ISV Resolute back into the deep frontier on a mission flagged only as an unspecified anomaly.
Junction-23 should be a survey problem. The brief is vague, the data is incomplete, and Geneva has no clear answer for what the crew is being sent to investigate. Marcus has seen enough of the frontier to know that vague language can be dangerous, so the Resolute approaches ready for more than routine science.
At first, the cluster offers only fragments: faint harmonic returns, uncertain geometry, and readings that refuse to settle into any known category. The science section works the data. Navigation watches the corridors. Engineering keeps the array warm. Diplomacy waits for something that may or may not choose to speak.
Then the pattern begins to resolve.
What looked like uncertainty becomes structure. What looked like distance becomes intent. The Resolute is far from support, short on clean answers, and facing a frontier problem that cannot be solved by doctrine alone.
Marcus has to decide how long to trust the data, how far to trust the institution behind him, and how much risk one ship can carry when retreat may not be the safest choice.
The Deep Frontier is a character-led hard science fiction command adventure about exploration under pressure, deep-space uncertainty, and the cost of keeping a crew alive when the map runs out.
This is Book 3 of The Long Watch, but it can be read as a complete standalone adventure.
For readers who like: hard science fiction, command fiction, deep-space exploration, military-adjacent space opera, alien mysteries, frontier survival, and competent crews under pressure.
