The Road Called Good

Mireth is the kind of place the frontier is supposed to be for. Cities climb impossible cliffs. Mirrors trade daylight between the cuts. Hoists carry commuters, freight and children who know exactly which rules they can break. Homes, businesses and rivalries occupy different heights of the same astonishing world.

Kestrel arrives to open a road. First, her crew has to learn how Mireth actually works. Then the new cut fails. Suddenly the infrastructure that made ordinary life possible becomes rescue geometry. People are stranded above and below broken lines. Hoists stop. Access routes disappear. Every shortcut crosses somebody's home, somebody's work or somebody else's idea of what the danger really is.
